In Paris, space in the city center is expensive and limited. In addition, spaces are often strung together in a way that makes little sense for contemporary living and pays limited attention to functionality. Starting with a beautiful old space, the new program required the virtual doubling the amount of functions while increasing the openness of the space, which was somewhat claustrophobic. The high ceiling and compact “pod” type elements were used to discretely hide many of the technical functions, preserving as much floor area as possible for the required bedrooms and living space. The open kitchen, dining, and living spaces function in a loft-like way.
Floating ceiling elements within the open concept both emphasize the volume of the apartment and create the opportunity for multiple intimate spaces.
